The 2.1 Percent

The Wall Street Journal recently released a survey conducted by the National Retail Federation that reveals this year’s most popular costume (at 13.4 percent) is “witch.” Shockingly, only 2.1 percent of the population is dressing up as a “vixen.” But this may be somewhat skewed since “nurse” is treated as a separate category (1.4 percent), and I don’t think the nurse costume is of the modern variety we see in hospitals (pajamas with floral patterns).

Meanwhile, as I mention in The Weekly Standard, dried fruit was handed out at this year’s White House Halloween party (along with, thankfully, M&Ms and cookies). I’m betting it’s the last thing left in a child’s candy bag, along with pennies, Sun-Maid raisins, and the toothbrush/toothpaste from the dentist’s house. (Also at the bottom you’ll find a few stray Tootsie Rolls and, at least for me, Good & Plenty.)

Happy Halloween, and may you not run into the “Grand” Pumpkin.
