About the Author
Victorino Matus is the author of Vodka: How a Colorless, Odorless, Flavorless Spirit Conquered America (Lyons Press, July 1, 2014). He is also a senior editor at The Weekly Standard. He started at the magazine in 1996 and has covered a wide array of subjects, including politics, Germany, military history, and popular culture. But he especially loves covering the subjects of food and drink because of the field research that is involved (such as when he served as a wine and oyster pairing judge and when Michel Richard almost fed him to death). Aside from The Weekly Standard, his writings have appeared in The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, The New York Post, National Review, Policy Review, Salon, The Smart Set, Armed Forces Journal, and Washingtonian magazine. He is a graduate of Georgetown University and currently resides in Arlington, Va., with his wife Kate and their two children.
